Spacing Satellite: On the Green

Read more articles by

In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, today’s Satellite challenge brings you something decidedly green: a golf course. Can you identify the one shown?

UPDATE:
Ready to see if your guess was par for the course?

True to the popular vote, the course shown above is Scarlett Woods Golf Course, found at Jane & Eglinton. The 18-hole course is a par 62, and it boasts in its profile that it features a “signature” 17th hole: “The elevated tee of this par 3 hole overlooks a pond, 140 yards away from a well-bunkered green.” Any golf aficionados out there who can offer their own testament?

The golf course is one of five maintained by Toronto’s Parks and Recreation Division. The city’s webpage on the history of these courses notes that work on Scarlett Woods was first approved in 1972 as part of the South Humber regional park system development. The course opened on Canada Day two years later.

The course takes its name from John Scarlett, who moved to the area from England and came to have a hand in developing the Humber Valley at the start of the 19th century.

Thanks for voting, and stay tuned for another Spacing Satellite next week!
