Kristyn Wong-Tam is city councillor for ward 27 in Toronto. A vocal champion of walking, the public realm and shared streets, Councillor Wong-Tam, in partnership with the Downtown Yonge BIA, is hosting the Celebrate Yonge Festival. For one month from mid-August to mid-September, the sidewalks on Yonge Street have been extended out towards the street in order to give pedestrians more leisure space. Councillor Wong-Tam also recently hired planners Ken Greenberg and Marianne McKenna to examine and report on potential, permanent modifications to Yonge Street. Spacing sat down with the Councillor to discuss both the Celebrate Yonge Festival and her long term vision for Toronto’s main street.
