If everyone has had their fill of helping the TTC redesign their website, the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation would like some of that creative energy sent their way. Yesterday the organization announced that it is accepting submissions from all Torontonians detailing their vision for the Lower Donlands. Following on the heels of an announcement for a design competition for the area, this latest call challenges the average citizen to come up with a new design for the derelict lands, including the Don River Mouth. From the press release:
Submissions must be no more than one 8.5†x 11†double-sided page including any illustrations and can contain both black and white and colour imagery. Submissions are due no later than February 2, 2007 by email: lowerdon@towaterfront.ca, by fax 416-214-4591, by mail or delivered in person: Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation, 20 Bay Street, Suite 1310, Toronto, ON, M5J 2N8.
If the amount of interest in the TTC’s call for help is any indication, there should be some interesting submissions from Toronto’s creative masses. Of course, redesigning a long-underused and pretty huge parcel of land is slightly more complicated than fixing a barely functional website, but, if nothing else, it should help stimulate our imaginations about the future of the Waterfront.

The Web site does not mention who owns the rights to any designs submitted. Those rights are automatically the creator’s unless otherwise agreed, which seems OK on the surface, but that doesn’t mean the corporation won’t try to use your work without compensation or credit later on.
Do not just hand over ideas to an organization that can afford to pay for them.
