Parks and Environment Committee
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Location: City Hall, 2nd Floor, Committee Room 1
Notable agenda items: Staff will present the results of a waste audit that was done in city parks. The presentation will include recommendations on how to divert more waste from making its way to our new landfill. You’ll find a link to the report on the audit in the committee’s agenda, which you can download.
The committee will also receive a report on efforts underway to figure out how much shade is available in city parks. Parks, Forestry and Recreation actually has a shade policy to ensure that new parks and recreation facilities include adequate amounts of shade. Determining how many of the parks that we already have suffer from a “shade deficit†is, as the city says, a large undertaking — Parks, Forestry and Recreation manage a whopping 833 playgrounds.

For an interesting read check out a report forwarded to the City by an independant group that studied Dufferin Grove Park and is now making recommendations on how to increase the effectiveness of existing City skate rinks.
The report is item 5a on the agenda, labelled as a letter from Adam Giambrone. Unfortunately City staff have done a poor job of scanning the report so you’ll have to flip each page 180 degrees.
I forgot to add that the report is in the Parks & Environment agenda that Dale has links to.
