The design of Dupont subway station transforms what otherwise would be an ordinary public space — the world has its share of staid, gloomy subway stations — into something whimsical, and even fantastic. Someone in earshot of me once compared it to a grotto, and given a couple of stalagmites, they’d be right on the money.
