Roof-top fights, part II

Last year, soon after I moved into my high-rise apartment, I discovered that the roof-top patio of a nearby apartment would sometimes be used to stage kick-boxing practice by tentants. This continued until the fall when they moved inside, I suspect. It wasn’t until last weekend that I saw them on the roof again, sweltering in the suddenly hot Toronto humidity.

As I mentioned last year, being in a high-rise that has a balcony with a killer view, I get to see people do all sorts of things from the very private (arguing on a balcony) to the very public (arguing over who is to blame for the fender-bender). This blurring of public and private spaces continues to intrigue me, and I hope to share more of these moments with you as the summer progresses (now that I have a spiffy new camera and kick-ass lenses).

The image below is a few photos put together into a rough animated sequence.

  1. Careful now… please view Hitchcock’s Rear Window before things get out of hand.

  2. …or Antonioni’s Blow-Up. 🙂

  3. Hey you guys…the first rule of roof top fight club is….

  4. That roof top could seriously use some greenery. Don’t kickboxers like to spar amongst the lush ferns and vines of nature? I can see how a trellis would do wonders for the stage of their battles.

  5. I had to remove all the pictures of Fatman in a Speedo that I had on my blog(this guy who used to lunge in his balcony, across the street from my window), due to privacy and liability concerns.

  6. What are the doing in the first picture? Kissing? I always thought kickboxing was kind of homoerotic. Good for them.
