It’s that time of year again. We’ve got a brand new issue coming out in a couple weeks and, like always, we’re excited to celebrate it with all of our readers. What’s more, this is the first of ten events to celebrate Spacing’s tenth year of publishing!

We’re happy to announce that our friends at the Ryerson Association of Planning Students (RAPS) will be co-hosting the event with us. Their second annual School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP) Expo will be happening earlier in the day and if you bring your SURP Expo name tag with you to our release party and check in at our RAPS table at the door, you can get in for free (and be eligible for an exclusive subscription deal!).

We’ll be having a silent auction with a lot of great prizes from local designers and businesses and DJ Track Meet (DJ Shirley Tempo sadly had to cancel) will be providing enough music to get everybody moving. Catering will be provided by Lou Dawgs (thanks to RAPS!). Photographer Rannie Turingan will have a photo station for you and your friends to get a portrait taken. See some of the portraits taken by Rannie at our previous events on our Flickr account.

The cover is $5 is you have an active subscription (not sure? email us at subscriptions@spacing.ca). If you’re not a current subscriber, $10 will pay for your cover and a copy of the new issue, or for $20 we’ll give you the new issue, cover, and a 1-year subscription (that’s a $32 value!).

We’ve held on to a precious handful of our Rocket Wheel token holders for this event so this will be your last chance to get your hands on one if you haven’t already. Of course we’ll also have the usual spread of all of our merchandise, with some great deals on subscriptions, back issues, and Metro Magnet sets.

In the new issue you’ll find:

  • Our cover story on food truck enthusiast and TV host James Cunningham and his show Eat St.
  • Taras Grescoe, author of Straphanger, perscribes five remedies to improve Canadian public transit
  • John Lorinc tries to define what we mean when we say “city building”
  • Spacing Montreal Editor Alanah Heffez recounts the history of corruption in Montreal politics

  1. Hello!

Could photographer Rannie upload more photos from the event. My friends and I were really hoping to see them! And thanks again for a great event!
